Many thanks to Heather Pritchard, reference librarian at Lexington Public Library Tates Creek, and the 14 people who attended her March 20th discussion of Once Upon a River, a novel by Bonnie Jo Campbell, our keynote speaker this year. Most loved the novel and its brave young protagonist, though some did not, and the moral ambiguity throughout yielded a very lively discussion! All agreed that the setting of rural Michigan in the 1970s was compellingly evoked, with some similarities to the Appalachian region of Kentucky. Once Upon a River is quite simply a perfect choice for book groups!
